To be a Christian – a follower of Christ, an image-bearer of Jesus – is to experience through the Spirit, the immersion of the story of Jesus in the story of your life, and the immersion of your life into his story. The measure of a Christian is the willful participation in the great exchange of Christ for us and us for him through the Spirit to the praise and glory of God. This incredible truth and reality is captured in the sacrament of the Lord’s baptism.
