Erika Kirk famously said “I forgive him” regarding her husband’s assassination. Is expressing forgiveness the only aspect of forgiveness that matters? The Lord’s Prayer points to the importance of forgiveness. The prayer adds the thought “as we have been forgiven.” “As” refers to the manner in which God forgives us. The Scriptures suggest that a process is involved. That process begins with the expression of forgiveness which is initiated by a decision to do so.
